Rocking Horses by Pigswhistle
Our rocking horses and stepping horses are individually hand carved in hardwood.
English woods such as Walnut, Sweet Chestnut, or Lime are preferred and we source foreign wood, such as American Black Walnut, Mahogany, Obeche and Cherry, from managed and sustainable supplies.
During and after carving, the rocking horses are dried in our kiln to reduce the natural movement of the wood in a centrally heated environment.

A stepping horse is a rocking horse carved with a stepping action instead of the traditional rocking or leaping stance.

Each rocking horse is given several coats of sealant and hand finished with dapples or wood polish.

- Continental horses gallop anticlockwise around the carousel so that riders can tilt at a hoop - winning a free ride!
- Painted in traditional colours with gold mane and tail.

Hair and Tack
We cure the horsehair used for the manes and tails; these are available in all natural colours or you chould choose synthetic hair, if desired.
The tack is real leather, and can be either fixed or detachable. Large rocking horses can have saddler-made, real English saddle and tack. Each detachable set comes with a blue or red numnah.
